Where I live march has marked the anniversary of our first covid-lockdown, concluding a very special year. Special not only because all of us missed out on everyday things like meeting up with friends but also special because the tech world has become a part of our everyday life. All those Zoom-meetings with friends and family, all those hour-long Netflix sessions and also all the work we suddenly had to do on our PCs. A year ago we might have said that those things were nice to have but aren’t really necessary. Well now they are — we finally live in a world, in which tech is fully integrated into our lives.
This change also brings the chance for new technologies to blossom and find broader acceptance. That’s exactly what happened to crypto-currencies. Admittedly crypto does sound a little mysterious but it actually isn’t. It is even less so compared to the traditional banking system. Let’s be honest no one of us can really comprehend all the money shifts here. So it comes that crypto-currencies offer a great alternative. However with bitcoin you need heavy equipment to contribute to the system making this a costly hobby. Ethereum on the other hand set out to change that, still gas prices can’t exactly be described as cheap. Paying 15$ to send 15$ that’s nothing I would call efficiency. Lucky us there’s so many more projects but let’s be honest 99% of those are either clones of btc and eth or they show a lack of vision.
That’s where NIMIQ comes in. Whether you pronounce it Nimiq or Nim-IQ is irrelevant but what is important is that everyone can use it. Thanks to a sleek UI the users won’t be flooded with unnecessary information and can truly focus on the important matters. NIMIQ is truly browserfirst, meaning you’ll have 100 percent functionality within whatever browser you’re using. On your PC and on your phone. You can even mine in the browser, but that won’t be relevant for much longer because Nimiq is soon switching algorithms — PoS instead of PoW. Thanks to staking everyone will be able to contribute to the system’s stability.
That sounds game changing but the real deal is this: NIMIQ OASIS
The team managed to build a new portal into crypto. You can buy assets with just your wallet and your bank account. Thanks to the implementation of fiat-smart contracts (Team nimiq is the first to develop such) fiat can be used like crypto for the first time ever. In a collaboration with the german TEN31 bank OASIS offers a new way to buy cryptoassets. Protected by HTLCs (Hashed timelock contract) you basically send money to TEN31 and in return get NIM credited to your wallet. Again everything in the browser.
The Fees are set at 1.25% and you will need no kyc as your identity is confirmed by your bank account anyways. For now there’s a 1k/30d (rolling window) limit on purchases but in future this will increase with the option of additional KYC.
